Parents are required to share the things available for their common maintenance with their minor child(ren) even at the expense of their own maintenance. The parent looking after the child provides the maintenance in kind, while the separated parent provides it primarily in cash, i.e. in the form of a child support.
The support provider may be obligated to pay the child support even if the child lives in the same household with him/her but he/she fails to provide for the child’s support.
If the parents of a child do not live in the same household, the father shall reimburse to the mother the costs of childbirth – provided that such costs are not covered by social security – and the required support for the period of time determined in other special legislation.
